Overview

What changed

The Yomi was reworked in two places at once: the material and the third hand.

The material. Machined from 7075 T6 aluminium, it now weighs 47 g while keeping the wear and impact resistance the previous version was built around.

The third hand. The brake is now activated by the pressure of the carabiner rather than by its previous mechanism. In practice that means feeding rope is noticeably easier, and so is braking when you actually need it — without giving up the ability to stop backfeed for up to 15 metres.

Compatibility

This is the part that matters if you already own Stonecrag gear. The new Yomi works with:

One device, whatever the rest of your system looks like.

It is also just a belay device

Outside the solo system, the Yomi behaves like any tube-style belay device — Reverso, ATC, take your pick — including Guide Mode for bringing up a second. If you climb with partners some weekends and alone on others, it does not need to leave the harness.

Frequently asked questions

Does it replace my normal belay device?

It can. The Yomi works like any Reverso or ATC-style tube device, Guide Mode included, so it covers ordinary partner belaying as well as its role in the solo system.

Which Mudo does it pair with?

All of them. That was the point of the redesign — one Yomi, whichever Mudo you own and whichever rope you are on.

What does "backfeed prevention" mean in practice?

The rope will not run back through the device under its own weight for up to 15 metres, so slack you have pulled through stays pulled through.
