Overview
The weight argument
El Mudo is stainless steel because stainless holds its geometry. That is the right call for most climbers, and it costs 600 g.
The 4.0 makes the opposite trade. It is machined entirely from 7075 T6 — the aluminium alloy used in aircraft structure, not the softer 6061 that most hardware is cut from — and comes in at 130 g. That is the difference between carrying the system on a long approach and thinking twice about it.
Rope range
The 4.0 is tuned for thin single ropes: 8.2 to 9.8 mm, performing best between 8.5 and 9.4 mm. That is a deliberately different window from El Mudo’s 9.4–10.5 mm. Between the two devices the whole practical range of single ropes is covered, but neither one covers all of it.

Strength
Over 20 kN in total rupture testing. For context, that is well past the loads a lead rope solo fall puts through the device on a dynamic single rope.
Who it is for
Climbers with projects where each gram counts — long approaches, big walls where the rack is already at its limit, alpine routes where the solo system has to justify its place in the pack.

Should I buy this or El Mudo?
Take the 4.0 if your rope is thin and every gram counts. Take El Mudo if you climb on fatter ropes, work the same route for months, or want the wear resistance of stainless steel over the weight saving.
Can I use it with a 10 mm rope?
No. The 4.0 is cut for 8.2 to 9.8 mm. Above that, use El Mudo.
