Overview
Why it exists
The Mudoble came directly out of user requests. Climbers running LRS and TRS on terrain that demands two ropes — wandering lines, remote routes where a full rappel retreat has to be possible, anything where rope drag or retreat length drives the decision — had no device that handled it.
What it does differently
It is not El Mudo with a second slot bolted on. The design runs the two ropes either as half ropes or as twins, which keeps that decision on the route where it belongs instead of forcing it at the gear shop.
More importantly, one device covers the whole day:
- Lead the pitch
- Rappel the pitch
- Top rope the pitch
No device change. No reconfiguration at the anchor. On a solo ascent, where every transition is a moment to make a mistake with nobody watching, removing transitions is the safety feature.
Construction
7075 aerospace aluminium, 161 g total for a device carrying two ropes. It keeps the robustness and simplicity of the original Mudo — in several places the design is improved over it, not merely carried across.
Rope range
Two dynamic ropes from 7.2 mm to 8.4 mm. That is the standard half and twin range; check your ropes fall inside it before ordering.
Frequently asked questions
Halves or twins?
Either. The design accepts both configurations, so the choice stays a route decision rather than a gear decision.
Do I need a second device to rappel?
No. Lead, rappel and top rope all run through the Mudoble as it sits. That is the point of it — nothing to swap at the anchor.
Can I run a single rope through it?
It is built and tested for two ropes from 7.2 to 8.4 mm. For single ropes use El Mudo or the Mudo 4.0.
